Clean Slate

There's no better way to start a New Year than on a clean slate,  the colour white though a neutral colour can give  a wardrobe a timeless twist especially in a classic piece like the shirtdress.

I love how the tailoring of the dress is relaxed and comfy yet it manages to look pulled together and give off an effortless cool vibes. This dress currently serves as an all rounder for me, easily going from brunches, to parties.

2014 is a Wrap! Happy New Year!

Hey people how have you been? I was racking my head trying to figure out how to break my long haitus from blogging, mehn! I probably need to clear out the cobwebs even before doing the post. Thank you all for remaining faithful to this blog even though I fall short of my responsibilities. I truly appreciate your coming back again and again, without you  this blog would have been a very lonely place.

It's the end of another year and i'm so thankful to be alive and healthy. 2014 was super eventful and I feel like it was adrenalin charged from day one to the end. I started the year with making resolutions and setting goals for the year.  To think that I used to give the *side-eye* to the obligatory new year resolution yada yada yada, Well, goal setting/resolutions is one of my big takeaway from 2014. Seriously, just make those goals/resolutions, write them down, brainstorm on how to achieve them,  pray about them and try to enjoy the process because it does get tough sometimes.

Todays outfit is one of my loots from the Altuzarra collection for Target. I was skeptical about buying from this collection at first, becuase most times when a high end designer does a more affordable line, they tend to look a tad tacky. With this collection it was different, all the pieces I chose were of decent quality fabric and nicely finished.

I took the dress for a spin a few days ago and it's currently been considered for an NYE gig. I love  how the dress can go from really glam with heels and the right acccessories to casual when worn with flats. For this post, I tried playing with different accesories but I'm still undecided on how I would be wearing it, any suggestions?

Nigerian Style Oven Baked Fish And Vegetables

This is my first attempt ever at baking fish in an oven at home and I think I’m hooked on this recipe. Thinking about it, its kind of strange because I do cook quite a fair share of grilled chicken, steak even prawns in the oven but for some reason I would only cook my fish on an open grill or griddle. I was inspired to try this recipe, after I visited my sister inlaw for dinner recently and she dished up this gourmet style looking grilled fish. I enjoyed her fish so thoroughly, I decided to give the recipe a spin but with my own twist to it. This recipe comes highly recommended, it is so easy to make, yet very very tasty. It’s also super healthy, which is something I strive to achieve with my meals these days. You can easily have your 5- A-day in this one meal, with its combination of vegetables that are melt in the mouth delicious. It’s currently the newest addition to my arsenal of recipes for date nights with the hubs and when I want something quick and easy to entertain guests.

Here’s what you need to make it.

Ingredients

For The Fish

•  Whole Croaker/ Tilapia/ Mackerel/ Red snapper / Cat Fish (Any Fish of your choice, I used Croaker)

•  Oyster sauce

•  Soy sauce

•  Red Chilli Peppers

•  Nsukka peppers ( Some people call this Cameroun peppers. Its sun dried chilli and the flavor is out of this world)

•  Garlic clove

•  Ginger

•  Oil ( I used sesame seed oil)

•  Cube seasoning ( I used Knorr)

For The Baked Vegetables
•  A knob of Butter

•  Carrot

•  Cabbage

•  Irish Potatoes

•  Black Pepper

Directions

1. Clean, descale, and gut fish. Make about an inch deep cuts across both sides of the fish and set aside.

2. Blend together some oil, knorr cubes, ginger, garlic, soy sauce, oyster sauce and all peppers, with some water to make a slighly loose paste.

3. Rub in blended pepper into fish. Massage into every opening of fish, you might need gloves to do this, the mixture is quite spicy. 

Put in the fridge to marinate for at least an hour. I left mine for about 6hhrs.

4. Chop all vegetables into small chunks or slices, spice with some black pepper and salt. Transfer into a foil wrap. Add a generous knob of butter and close competely.

5. Wrap up marinated fish in foil paper and bake together with vegetables in a hot oven (270C) for about one hour.

6. 10-15mins to the end of the cooking time, open foil paper of fish and put some holes through the foil paper to drain off the fish stock (Liquid). Continue cooking with foil wrap open until the fish has a crispy top. Bring out fish and vegetables from oven at the same time and serve hot.

There's my fish! served rustic, no frills just full on flavour. Trust me this is one recipe you want to try.

Notes:  After I dished out the vegetables I realised it could have done with more colours, so for my next attempt I would try using large red, green, and yellow peppers and possibly some aubergines and sweet potatoes.

Trend Loving - Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2015

Hey People, How are you all doing, Not bad I hope? …Ok great! I’m not much of a trend follower with respect to what I wear. More often I choose classic pieces and then incorporate a few trending pieces that I absolutely love, in other to keep my look updated.

However, by necessity I have to be in the know with regards to fashion trends. Fashion week events proves a great way to get an insight into what’s ‘in’ and what’s ‘out’ for the up coming season, in this industry that is constantly obsessed with finding the next ‘new’.  

Unlike the past, when there is a long wait after shows before the trends hit the stores. Thanks to the media and technology we do not need to wait several months after fashion shows to start incorporating the ‘now look’ into our wardrobe.

Obviously for the most part the major trends would not get fully circulatory until next season. However, some elements can be easily incorporated into your wardrobe straightaway, as there are a few throwbacks from previous seasons.

Trends like the crop tops and sports inspired looks seem like they would be going nowhere, and old favorites such as the polka dots trends have been given a breath of freshness. Here are some trends on my radar from the Spring/Summer 2015 shows.

I love this trend for its simple elegance. Trends aside, I think every woman need a great white button up shirt, paired with midi skirts  they look super chic.

The Gingham has been trending for some time, next season they come in an array of colours.

Belts were all over the  spring/summer catwalks. These Obi belts inspired by  the Samurais stood out for me, could they be the 'next new' come spring? fingers crossed.

I love me a good overall, and when they come tailored and smart even better!

Great turn-up look I think.  Too much? too little or just right? share your opinion in the comments. 

Fresh take on the polkies, can't wait to see how this trend would be adapted by high street brands.

I mostly choose more tailored fit over slouchy tailoring, but I love how refined this slouchy pieces look.

And it looks like we would still be baring our mid-sections come next season.

Linen And Lace

Many apologies for the infrequent posts. Hope you’ve all been great. I hate to give excuses about not blogging as frequently as I would like to but sometimes it’s a tough job to balance managing two rambunctious boys, keeping the hubby well taken care of and happy and managing a growing business. Every single day I have to prioritize my long to-do list in such a way that the most important items are ticked off and the clan is happy. Sometimes I even have to re-priotise as things crop up.  I’m not complaining, I am happy doing what I love and I’m thankful to God for a family that supports me.

Taking about managing a business, On weekends when I have to do a bit of running around I like to pull off a comfortable yet chic laid back look. 

I like the idea of pairing white linens pants with a Tshirt/ Tank top and sandals.

It’s an instant way to look put together and comfy at the same time, especially when it's white linen.  Wearing the colour white is a great way to pull off an instant chic factor.  Just wondering, What is your go to item to get that laidback yet chic look?
