You know how you think of certain places and a word pops to mind? for me the word for London is 'quirky', especially with respect to its fashion. So with much anticipation the fashion world focused on quirky cool London. Seriously where else can you get that eccentric fashion buzz that is uniquely English..... right ? Wrong!
The shows this season were glamorous, polished, and elegant and it looked to me like London was losing the quirkiness I used to love about it. Although the shows were still quintessentially English with traditional English fabrics such as tartan and tweeds on display but now more elegantly tailored.
These are some of my favourite looks.
Burberry Prorsum
This collection showed off tradition English in fresh, modern cool way. coats and trenches were nipped in at the waist to create that hour glass look, the pockets were also puffed out for added emphasis on the waist. tweed and wool were in good use as well as some lovely leather accents. colours were grey, ivory, mustard and brown.
Erdem
This collection was classic and surprising quite colourful. A good dose of Printed fabrics and embroidery in lace, chiffon and some tight fitting jumpers paired with penciled skirts brought some uber chicness to this catwalk. there were also a few 'matchy' pieces in same fabric from head to toe, in classic Erdem style.
Jonathan Saunders
Now this is one collection I wanted every single piece. Sleek use of printed fabrics with some retro inspired looks. love the man style suits in use here. The look was posh and very colourful, totally knocked my socks off!
McQ Alexander McQueen
With Alexander McQueen you know to expect high drama, but with the first show of McQ line spear headed by Sarah Burton the pieces were more contemporary was totally wearable and i must say freaking fab! the collection was military inspired though the overall look was quite soft and had some retro element to it. Even though this line is a more contemporary version of the main McQueen line the whole essence of the McQueen spirit was not lost in the process, Kudos Ms Burton!
Mulberry
The use of heavy fabrics in loose fitting silhouette was in play here, this collection had an ample display of fur with some 50's inspired themes thrown in the mix. love the rock chic edge of those booties.
Paul Smith
This catwalk was sort of androgynous but then quintessentially British, this was one catwalk that paid homage to 'quirky englishness'.
Nicole Farhi
Structured/ architectural in some cases yet glamorous looks, very sophisticated, very preppy but quite dark with just a few colours thrown in here and there.
Stella McCarthney Evening Wear
There are some collection you just want to have everything in your wardrobe....this was it for me. It was fresh, clean, colourful, sophisticated yet still totally fun.
Vivienne Westwood
This collection showed everything i loved about London fashion, it was edgy, quirky yet cool and sophisticated at the same time.
Overall the shows still maintained their 'englishness' yet they managed to be more mainstream, always love the London look. whats your take on London fashion week?
Have a great week
